Silver Lake College Men's Basketball Coach, Phil Budervic, was deeply moved to respond after reading about the tragic death of 8 year old, Tyler Doohan, in East Rochester, NY.  Firefighters in East Rochester, said after helping several family members, including two children and two adults escape a burning trailer, the brave boy ran back in for his disabled grandfather and uncle.

The Lady Lakers improved their record to 12-8 with two victories this past weekend on the road in snowy Michigan. The one win however came as a forfeit. Great Lakes Christian College could not field a team resulting in the forfeit. It will go down as a 2-0 win.

The men’s basketball team closed out their 3 games in 4 days stretch on a 3 game winning streak. In addition to defeating Maranatha Baptist College on the road Thursday, the Lakers defeated Finlandia University on Saturday, 87-78 and Gogebic Community College on Sunday 80-69. Both games were played at the UW Manitowoc Field House. The men’s team improved their season record to 7-16.

The Lady Lakers broke their two game losing streak with a convincing 87 to 68 victory over Gogebic Community College. Despite not playing up to their potential in the first half the Lady Lakers played well enough to maintain the lead. The team came out very focused in the second half both on offense and defense outscoring the Lady Samsons 40 to 30 to maintain the lead.

The Lady Lakers came up short for an upset victory over Finlandia University losing the game 84 to 68. The score certainly does not indicate how close the game really was. Mid way throught the second half the Lady Lakers actually tied up the score. Then a 9-0  run with three three point baskets by Finlandia opened up the lead and they never looked back. The team played with great energy tonight but could not get the ball to fall late in the second half.

Last night, behind a great defensive and rebounding effort, the men’s basketball team defeated the Maranatha Baptist Bible College Crusaders 56-50 in overtime. The Lakers worked hard to build up a 12 point lead just before the half. With 3 seconds left in the half, the Lakers stole an inbounds pass and Kyle Lundberg hit nothing but net from half-court to increase the half time lead to 15.

The home town Maranatha Baptist College Lady Crusaders snapped the Lady Lakers 3 game winning streak with an 71 to 68 overtime victory in Watertown WI. Mid way through the first half the game was very close with the lead going back and forth several times. In the closing minutes the Lady Lakers had some untimely turnovers as well as fouls putting the Lady Crusaders at the free throw line where they converted 80% of threir free throws helping them to a 34 to 21 lead at the half.

The Lady Lakers improved their record to 8-5 by winning their third straight game over NCAA Division III Mount Mary University 78 to 60. This was the first road game of the second half of the season and the Lady Lakers got off to a very sluggish start. The team did pick up the pace on defense and fought back late in the first half to take the lead just before half time 43 to 39.

The Lady Lakers improved their record to 7-5 with an impressive win over Andrews University 75 to 10. After Andrews scoring the first two points of the game the Lady Lakers swarming defensive gave up only 2 more points for the rest of the half giving the Lady Lakers a 37 to 4 lead.

The 12th ranked Lady Lakers improved their record to 6 and 5 with a victory over UW Fond du Lac by a score of 68 to 41. The Lady Lakers did struggle from the field shooting only 26.7% in the first half, but played extremely well defensively holding the Lady Falcons to 11 points. Once again the team came out with a lot of energy defensively but missed some very makeable shots that could of increased the lead.

The Lady Lakers dropped a hard fought game to the NAIA athletic Judson Lady Eagles on January 4. The final score was 73 to 46. The Lady Lakers came out with an enormous amount of energy and actually held the lead until late in the first half. The Lady Lakers broke their press and were beating them down court and scored.
