Dozens of people traveled to Silver Lake College for 2014 Kodály Summer Music Session

Silver Lake College held its 41st annual Kodály Summer Music Session from June 30 through July 18, 2014, at the campus’ new Franciscan Center for Music Education and Performance.

The session hosted 62 new and returning students (for the Kodály Certificate program and Master of Music degree with Kodály Emphasis) from throughout Wisconsin as well as one other country (Ireland) and 12 other states (Georgia, Indiana, Iowa, Illinois, Kansas, Massachusetts, Michigan, Montana, New Jersey, New York, Texas and Utah).

Rahr-West Art Museum spotlights LaBonte's street art

Photographs of a unique form of street art will be exhibited at the Rahr-West Art Museum, 610 N. Eighth St., from July 20 through Aug. 10.

“Chameleon” is being presented by Erin LaBonte, an assistant art professor at Silver Lake College in Manitowoc. An artist reception is scheduled for July 29 from 5 to 6 p.m. The free exhibit will showcase about a dozen photographs of her work, as well as a video.

Silver Lake College taking part in Wisconsin Private College Week

Silver Lake College, along with Wisconsin’s other 22 private, nonprofit colleges and universities, is taking part in Wisconsin Private College Week, which will be July 14-19.

Celebrating its 19th year, Wisconsin Private College Week is sponsored by the Wisconsin Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (WAICU) and provides students an opportunity to visit all of Wisconsin’s private, nonprofit colleges.

During Wisconsin Private College Week, students can take advantage of campus tours, meet with admissions counselors, get financial aid and scholarship information, and more.

Students entering grades 3 through 8 are invited to attend Camp Explore, a college exploration and Liberal Arts summer camp, which will be held July 30 through Aug. 1 at Silver Lake College, 2406 S. Alverno Road.

SLC representatives helping with Feed The Kids summer program

Hundreds of children in Manitowoc County aren’t feeling hungry this summer thanks in part to efforts by eight representatives of Silver Lake College.

The Salvation Army of Manitowoc County’s Feed The Kids summer food program provides nutritious lunches to nearly 500 children in Manitowoc and Two Rivers each weekday from June 9 through Aug. 29. Free lunches are distributed to children 18 and younger who are in need of a meal.
