Born into a Catholic family in the city of Madras on the southeastern coast of India, Dr. Robert Berchmans, Professor of Theology and Ministry at Silver Lake College, was exposed to a variety of religions as he was growing up.

His life’s experiences help bring a first-hand perspective to his teaching, said Berchmans, who has been a faculty member at Silver Lake College for the past 20 years.

Monica Martinez signs to play volleyball, attend Silver Lake College

Monica Martinez of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., signed a letter of intent to attend and play volleyball at Silver Lake College.

This past season at Ft. Lauderdale High School, Martinez was the team captain and MVP for the volleyball team, which compiled a 16-4 record and placed second in district competition.

Hundreds of community volunteers — including Silver Lake College students, staff, faculty and Student United Way members — got together to breathe life into the Manitowoc community garden project on Saturday, April 25, 2015, which was designated as United Way Day of Caring and Comcast Cares Day.

Megan Baradic of Delafield, Wis., is thrilled she was chosen as the 2015 recipient of Silver Lake College’s Mother Generose Cahill Honors Scholarship.

Silver Lake College has been awarded a $40,000 Community Impact Grant from United Way Manitowoc County to help fund the college's Look Ahead Lakers program for the 2015-16 school year, said Mary Snyder, SLC's Grants and Planned Giving Specialist.

The Washington Street Antique Mall, located in downtown Manitowoc at 910 Washington St., will get a new look this summer thanks to four local artists who will paint a mural on its outside west wall.
