Sister Marie Kolbe Zamora defends dissertation in Rome, Italy

Sister Marie Kolbe Zamora, chair of the Department of Theology and Ministry at Silver Lake College, defended her dissertation at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome on June 15.

By successfully defending her dissertation, titled “Ecclesiological Elements in the Early Theology of St. Bonaventure,” Sister Marie acquired a Doctor of Sacred Theology (STD) degree.

Sister Marie began work on the dissertation in 2008 and finished it this year. The 472-page document takes an in-depth look at St. Bonaventure’s writing about the church.

Jessica feels fortunate to be working with someone who has photographed celebrities Jessica Simpson, Kevin Bacon, Adam Levine of Maroon 5 and supermodel Niki Taylor, as well as editorial fashion, beauty and celebrity portraits for advertising, entertainment and magazines.

SLC's Tanya Bouche encourages faculty, students to eat healthy

Silver Lake College senior Tanya Bouche is helping give new dimension to the word “green.

The Two Rivers woman has a green thumb and is enticing college students, faculty and staff to eat fresh greens.

Part of her job as a summer landscaping intern is to tend to the planter boxes of fruits, vegetables and herbs located in the college’s commons area. It is the first time the college has grown an organic food garden, Tanya said.

Silver Lake College senior Wesley Dowell is enthusiastic about his summer internship in the Career Services Department, where he helps other students find jobs and prepare for life after college.

“I’ve learned so much in 10 weeks about how a business and school system are run,” said Wesley, a history major and business minor. “I like working with budgets. I like helping students find jobs.”

On sunny summer days, Silver Lake College senior Austin Allen-Walker can be spotted outdoors supervising children who are climbing on the playground equipment at Madison Elementary School in Manitowoc.

He is interning with the Manitowoc-Two Rivers YMCA children’s summer program called Y B.R.E.A.K., which is held at the elementary school, and he’s earning college credit in psychology while he does it.

Ireland's Bébhinn Ní Mheara among educators attending SLC's Kodály Summer Music Program

Bébhinn Ní Mheara traveled more than 3,500 miles from Cork, Ireland, to attend Silver Lake College’s 2015 Kodály Summer Music Program.

She is one of more than 30 music educators — many from other parts of the country and the world — on campus for the two-week program, which runs from June 29 to July 10.
