MANITOWOC, Wis. — Dr. Robert B. Callahan has been named 11th president of Silver Lake College of the Holy Family, effective Jan. 30, 2018.
Dr. Callahan comes to Silver Lake College from Mount Mercy University, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where he’s served since 2012, most recently as vice president for administrative, enrollment and student services.
“We are thrilled to have Rob joining us as the new president of Silver Lake College,” said Dan McGinty, president of Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity Sponsored Ministries, Inc., which manages the college as part of the Franciscan Sisters’ ministries.
“There are some exciting opportunities ahead and Rob’s leadership, commitment and enthusiasm will be a tremendous benefit to the Silver Lake College community as we work toward a vibrant future,” he said. “I look forward to working with Rob in continuing this vital ministry of the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity.”
Eric Volcheff, chairman of the Silver Lake College Board of Trustees, also is pleased to welcome Dr. Callahan.
“On behalf of the board of trustees, we are excited to have an individual with the credentials and experience that Dr. Callahan possesses, joining and leading the Silver Lake College community,” Volcheff said. “The pool of talent that our executive search committee had to choose from was quite deep, but Rob rose to the top as the best individual to complete the strategic plan laid out by his predecessor and begin the next chapter for our college.”
During his tenure at Mount Mercy University, Dr. Callahan led initiatives that grew freshmen and overall enrollment to record levels. He also was responsible for increasing residential, minority, international, veteran, choir/band and student-athlete enrollment to record levels.
Dr. Callahan supervised construction projects including a $16-million-dollar multi-stadium athletic complex, a chemistry labs renovation and a gymnasium renovation.
He has more than 24 years of professional experience in a broad array of areas within higher education, with more than half of those years as a senior-level administrator at four institutions of higher education.
“I am both humbled and honored to have been chosen to serve as president of Silver Lake College of the Holy Family. The Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity have built a wonderful Catholic institution with an academic program that focuses on the liberal arts combined with professional preparation that has transformed the lives of many students throughout its 82-year history,” Dr. Callahan said. “I am excited by the future potential for Silver Lake College as America’s first Catholic Work College. The college is committed to providing students with hands-on, real-world work experience as an integral component of a high-quality and affordable college education.”
Dr. Callahan earned his Doctor of Philosophy in business administration with a specialization in management from Northcentral University in Prescott, Arizona. He earned his Master of Science in business administration and his Bachelor of Science in marketing management from Thomas College in Waterville, Maine.
He and his wife, Carolyn, along with their children, Jonathan and Katelyn, are “proud to become the newest members of the Silver Lake College family,” he said.
