The works of Silver Lake College senior Jessica Martinez will be shown at Silver Lake College Dec. 3 through Jan. 4.
The exhibit, titled “Photography and Working Hands,” will be open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays through Fridays in the Lake's Edge Gallery in the Franciscan Center for Music Education and Performance on campus, 2406 S. Alverno Road. The public is welcome; there is no admission charge.
The exhibit will feature New York City street photography and metal art.
“Jessica explores art as a conversation with the medium and with the viewer,” said Dr. Dionne Landgraf, Associate Professor of Art. “She involves her audience within the transformative performance of her vision and process.”
The photographs are from a trip Martinez took this past summer to New York City, where she worked as an intern with international award-winning fashion photographer Jill Wachter. Wachter, who has photographed celebrities including Jessica Simpson, Kevin Bacon, Adam Levine of Maroon 5 and supermodel Niki Taylor, does editorial fashion, beauty and celebrity portraits for advertising, entertainment and magazines.
Martinez, a Bronx, N.Y., native, is majoring in studio art and plans to be an art teacher. She is recipient of the Henry Schuette Memorial Endowed Scholarship, the Zebrowski Endowment Scholarship, the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity Scholarship, and a college-funded Community Service Grant.
On completion of her Silver Lake College degree, she plans to obtain her teaching licensure in New York and pursue a Master’s of Fine Arts in Photography.
