Our third long road trip in the last three weeks is finally over. The injury bug really hit us hard last week and this weekend as well. We went to upper Michigan without Jordan Barbeau who had to have dental surgery on Friday and also without our starting guard Shanice Wilson who had to sit out both games because of a concussion. On Sunday's game against Finlandia University, our shooting guard, Kaela Chessman suffered a serious injury to her knee early in the first half of Sunday's game. Kaela was playing extremely well up until her injury and we truly missed her for the rest of the game. With that being said, the Lady Lakers lost both games this weekend.
Saturday at Gogebic College the Lady Lakers being down as much as 15 points came back in the second half to take the lead only to lose the game by one point 71 to 70. The game was a very well played by both teams who battled hard to win the game. I was extremely proud of our team. they fought extremely hard throughout the game to come back from the deficit and actually take a lead in the second half. We were all disappointed with the loss but was satisfied that we did everything we could to try to win the game.
Leading the Lady Lakers was Lyndsay Hoschbach with 15 points and Kaela Chessman added 12 points. Four other Lady Lakers added nine points each incluling Jacquelyn Tanner, Amanda Kudick who also had 4 assists, Courtney Clavers and Raelyn Woock, who also just missed the double double with 11 rebounds.
Sunday's game was also very well played game by both teams unfortunately the Lady Lakers saw their record fall to 15 and 10 with a 75 to 64 loss to Finlandia University. This was the sixth straight win for the Lady Lions. The Lady Lakers found themselves down by ten at half. The injury to Kaela Chessman was a huge loss for us for the first half. Kaela already had one three point shot and was playing very well. The team seemed to get distracted over the injury and may have lost its focus for a time. That is all Finlandia need to take a 37 to 27 half time lead. We did come out in the second half very focused and got the game within 4 points several times but were never able to get the lead. We did play the Lady Lions even-up in the second half but just not make up the 10 point defict of the first half.
Leading the way for the Lady Lakers was Corrina Beaumount with 16 points including 6 for 6 from the free throw line. Also scoring in double figures was Courtney Clavers with 14 points and Lyndsay Holschbach with 12. Amanda Kudick had 6 assists and 3 steals.
