Monica Martinez of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., signed a letter of intent to attend and play volleyball at Silver Lake College.
This past season at Ft. Lauderdale High School, Martinez was the team captain and MVP for the volleyball team, which compiled a 16-4 record and placed second in district competition.
"We are extremely excited to be adding Monica to our 2015 roster," said Silver Lake College women's volleyball coach Tara Stewart, who noted that Martinez chose Silver Lake College over Penn State. "In order for our program to continue to move forward, we need to bring in reliable recruits that will get the job done for us; Monica fits that perfectly.
"She has a tremendous skills base and her competitive streak adds spark to our team. Most importantly, her chemistry with the team is phenomenal. They respect her as a player and appreciate that she puts her heart on the floor for them. From a coach's perspective, I will be looking to Monica to be one of our go-to players. Her commitment, passion and competitiveness will be fundamental in advancing our program to a higher level. We are also proud to say that Monica's willingness to help others and be involved in the community is a perfect fit for Silver Lake's servant leadership model.”
