Silver Lake College announced that the Music for Tots program and Silver Lake Children’s Choir are now under the umbrella of the Holy Family Conservatory of Music, which is housed at the new Franciscan Center for Music Education and Performance, located on campus at 2406 S. Alverno Road.
Carol Storck has been selected to coordinate the Music for Tots program and serve as the Artistic Director for the Silver Lake Children's Choir.
Storck, who received her Master of Music degree with a Kodaly Emphasis from SLC, plans to continue building both programs and have the Music for Tots program feed into the choral program, which begins at the age of 6. She used to teach Music for Tots in Manitowoc, Sheboygan and Cedarburg several years ago.
Music For Tots is a 10-week program for children up to age 5 that was started by Sister Lorna Zemke. The program is designed to help improve not only the tonal, listening, coordination and rhythmic skills of the children, but also their verbal and socialization skills and their ability to follow directions, focus attention and share with peers.
The mission of the Silver Lake Children’s Choir, which is geared to children in grades 1-12, is “to offer excellent instruction in choral music inspired by the Kodály concept of music education and the choral standards of the American Choral Directors Association; and to provide outstanding performance opportunities, including performances with the music ensembles of Silver Lake College and Holy Family Conservatory recitals.”
Holy Family Conservatory of Music has Manitowoc roots dating back to 1925.
