MANITOWOC, Wis. — Photographs can be more than just capturing a moment in time. For some, it can be about transporting a person to another place. Wisconsin native Dale Van Minsel will display his exhibit, “Perspectives: The Photography of Dale Van Minsel,” Nov. 29 through Jan. 15 at Lake’s Edge Gallery at Silver Lake College.
Van Minsel’s works were created primarily using an iPhone and photo applications.
“I’ve always enjoyed creating images depicting ‘altered landscapes’ and ‘possible dimensions’ using whatever medium was available at the time, but iPhoneography and photo applications really allow me to create unique images without additional cost or equipment limitations,” Van Minsel said.
“Dale Van Minsel reshapes photographic methods in expressive and innovative ways. His work explores the dramatic interplay of color, light and atmosphere while defining new artistic boundaries,” said Dionne Landgraf, associate professor of art.
Currently residing in eastern Wisconsin, Van Minsel has worked on the art and craft of photography since 1978. He served as the event and public relations photographer for two colleges, in addition to teaching photography classes and workshops both locally and statewide during the course of his professional career.
Van Minsel’s solo work has appeared at the University of Wisconsin-Sheboygan, Gallery 3, Frank Juarez Gallery, Silver Lake College, The Trout Museum of Art, and Rahr-West Art Museum. Recent group exhibits include Plymouth Arts Center, Neville Public Museum, Thelma Sadoff Center for the Arts, John Michael Kohler Arts Center, (comma?) and Charles Allis Museum of Art. He also has exhibited his work in New York City and Brazil. Van Minsel was a a participant in international exhibitions in Ferrara and Verona Italy, and Paris, France.
