Seven members of the Silver Lake College women's basketball team earned Academic All-American honors from the United States Collegiate Athletic Association.
That was more than any other men's or women's basketball team in the USCAA this season. The honor is bestowed upon student-athletes of sophomore standing or higher with at least a 3.5 grade-point average.
SLC students receiving Academic All-American honors on March 1 during the USCAA's annual banquet in Uniontown, Pennsylvania (held in conjunction with the 2016 Basketball National Championships) were:
* Senior forward Courtney Clavers of Brillion
* Senior guard Marissa Senglaub of Manitowoc
* Junior guard Amanda Kudick of Kewaunee
* Junior guard Jordan Barbeau of Iron Mountain, Michigan
* Junior guard Abby Gerhard of Iron Mountain, Michigan
* Sophomore guard Danielle Byrum of Sheboygan
* Sophomore forward Danelle Buck of Newton
"They are great ambassadors for Silver Lake College," said SLC President Dr. Chris Domes. "They truly represent what it means to be a student-athlete."
Mike Flentje, head coach of the SLC women's basketball team, added, "They work hard to succeed on the court, and they also are very successful in the classroom."
The Lakers competed last week in the USCAA Basketball National Championships for the first time in two decades.
