Silver Lake College holds awards ceremony

MANITOWOC, Wis. -- Silver Lake College of the Holy Family awarded scholarships to incoming students and honored current students, faculty, alumni and parents during its Awards Ceremony on April 25.

Academic honors scholarships were awarded to some of the top students of the incoming class. Alexandra Siwy was awarded the Mother Generose Cahill Honors Scholarship. Carissa Dekanich was awarded the Sister Orestes Kohlbeck Honors Scholarship. Carlye Burk and Camie McCue were awarded the Founder’s Honors Scholarship. Nathan Budde and Rebecca Schaefer were awarded the Trustee Honors Scholarship.

Athletic awards recognized the accomplishments of student-athletes on the field and off.

Danelle Buck, Danielle Byrum, Abby Gerhard, Hailee Kotche and Ashley Rumlow were named NAIA-Daktronics Scholar Athletes.

Danelle Buck, Danielle Byrum, Abby Gerhard, Hailee Kotche, Carla Martinez, Ashley Rumlow and Hannah Severin were named to the United States Collegiate Athletic Association All-American Team.

Named Most Improved Player were: Marcellus Duckworth, Angie Kudick, Corey Lloyd, Carla Martinez, Carmen Medina Santa Anna, Henry Thang and Imunek Williams.

Students named Most Valuable Player included: Danelle Buck, Ariel Galoff, Hailee Kotche, Mya Paw, Cesar Pineda and Tasha Rabe.

The following student-athletes received a Coaches Award: Bruno Asca Rosas, Danielle Byrum, Taylor Harper, Matalie Koss, Young Moua, Jannin Pineda, Katelyn Stascak and Liz Turner.               

The Omega Beta Chapter of the Beta Beta Beta (TriBeta) national biological honor society recognized Danielle Byrum and Anna Hall.

The Delta Kappa Pi international honor society in education recognized Abby Gerhard, Allison Kozelek, Megan Lindemann, Kelsey O’Connor, Mikalya Opichka and Katherine Sohn.

The following Presidential Honor Ambassadors were recognized: Chadia Igiraneza, Tori Jonet, Ashley Joosten, Ben Karnitz, Carla Martinez, Catie Minter, Theresa Nier and Heysa Orellana Vega.

Alumni and parents also were honored. The 2017 Distinguished Alumni Award was given to Jilleen J. Bodwin ’02, Master of Arts ’04. The 2018 Distinguished Alumni Award was given to Elmer Schill, ’72. The Outstanding Recent Alumni Award was given to John Bieley ’10. Jennifer and the late Larry Jacobs were honored with the Distinguished Parents Award.

Two individuals were honored with the Freddy Award, which recognizes junior or senior students, and faculty, staff or administrators for fostering the Franciscan spirit of community within and beyond the college campus. Recipients of the Freddy Award were Sister Lorita Gaffney, vice president for mission integration, and Sister Louise Hembrecht, assistant director of mission.

Summa cum laude graduation honors were awarded to Callie Brice, Abigail Brill, Angela Dvorak, Abby Gerhard, Anna Hall, Allison Kozelek, Jennifer Knuth, Sister Thi Le, Megan Lindemann, Lydia Matthews, Kelsey O’Connor, Mikayla Opichka and Katherine Sohn.

Magna cum laude graduation honors were awarded to Tina Brown, Danielle Byrum, Alyssa Canales, Kristina Carroll, Miranda Chase, Tammy Hagenow, Sarah Presley, Sister Hang Ta.

Cum Laude graduation honors were awarded to Jeffrey Erdman, Brianna Krueger, Heysa Orellana Vega, Kristine Payant, Erin Wachtendonk and Elizabeth Warens.
