MANITOWOC, Wis. — Silver Lake College of the Holy Family is proud to announce the College’s Gift of Dreams Campaign surpassed its goal and raised $256,245. The College launched the Gift of Dreams Campaign on Dec. 10, 2018, as a three-week initiative to raise $250,000 which would allow 50 students to continue their education at Silver Lake College of the Holy Family.
More than 50 students were in jeopardy at the end of the fall semester of not being able to return for the 2019 spring semester due to financial challenges. Following an ask to the community, Dr. Robert B. Callahan, president of Silver Lake College of the Holy Family, is grateful to those who joined him and the College in supporting this important endeavor.
“Thank you to everyone who supported us in surpassing our goal of $250,000! Through the generous support of the Lakeshore communities, our valued donors, community partners, faculty and staff, these students will be able to continue their path to earning a college degree,” said Dr. Callahan. “By making their dreams possible through generous donations, we will continue our mission of encouraging students to become servant leaders. We are grateful for the generosity and assistance in making the Gift of Dreams Campaign a great success!”
Every student assisted through the Gift of Dreams Campaign is not just receiving a handout, but a hand up. Many students sought ways to earn additional income during Christmas break to pay down their tuition costs and will continue to work throughout the academic year.
The Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity have always ensured a large part of the College’s mission be dedicated to empowering and educating students to earn their degree in an environment grounded in the Franciscan Values. Many Silver Lake College of the Holy Family students are the first in their family to have the opportunity to college. Currently, 62 percent of the College’s full-time undergraduates are from low-income families.
“These students now have an opportunity to continue their education in hopes they will leave Silver Lake College of the Holy Family with a degree in their hand, pursuing their careers,” added Tracy Milkowski, vice president for Advancement and External Relations.
