Fall — and music — are in the air as the Silver Lake College music department gets ready to present its choral and instrumental concert at 7 p.m. on Oct. 21.
The Fall Choral and Insturmental Concert will be performed in the Franciscan Center for Music Education and Performance on campus, 2406 S. Alverno Road. The public is welcome.
The Silver Lake Wind Ensemble, which combines the talents of students and community musicians, will perform under the baton of Dr. Ron Rivero. As assistant professor of instrumental music at Silver Lake College, he teaches courses in music education and applied oboe lessons in addition to conducting the wind ensemble. Dr. Rivero has extensive conducting background and has served as principal oboist with several ensembles, which have performed in the United States, Italy, Austria and Singapore.
The Silver Lake Chorale, which is made up of student singers, and the Silver Lake Concert Choir, which features students and community singers, will perform under the direction of Dr. Ken Harned, assistant professor of choral music. In addition to conducting the two groups, Dr. Harned teaches conducting, sight-singing, applied voice and choral music education courses.
As a choral singer, Dr. Harned has performed on stage with a variety of celebrities including Angela Langsbury, Joanna Gleason, LeAnn Rimes, Jason Grae, Liz Callaway, Malcom Getts, Conan O’Brien and Weird Al Yankovic.
