UNDERGRAD_Lydia-Matthews-picLydia Matthews, a freshman at Silver Lake College, has been hired as the music director and rehearsal accompanist for Dare to Dream Theatre’s upcoming production of “Miss Nelson is Missing!”

The Kiel High School graduate said she’s “excited to gain the experience,” in part because the positions incorporate two things she enjoys — playing piano and working with children.

Rehearsals start Saturday. “Miss Nelson is Missing!” is about a class of rambunctious young children who realize how much they miss their teacher after she’s missing from school for a period of time.

Matthews, who’s majoring in Piano Performance and Pedagogy, is a pianist with the college’s Jazz Ensemble and also teaches piano lessons. After graduating from college, she’d like to continue giving lessons and working with children.

Earlier this month, Matthews participated in a piano master class with internationally renowned pianist George Vatchnadze, who performed at Silver Lake College as part of the 2014-2015 Artist Music Series.
