MANITOWOC, Wis. — Silver Lake College of the Holy Family will offer the two-week Kodály Summer Graduate Music Program for educators July 2-13.

Graduate students are taught the latest research, theory and methods in music education as they fine-tune their professional skills and personal musicianship.

Music educators can earn a Master of Music in Music Education with a Kodály emphasis in just four summers. While earning a master’s degree, they also earn an Organization of American Kodály Educators-endorsed Kodály certification.

Graduate students also have the option of earning a Kodály certification in just three summers.

Kodály is an experience-based approach to teaching music developed in Hungary by Zoltán Kodály during the mid-20th century. Silver Lake College was the first to offer a master’s degree in Kodály education and has since enjoyed a coveted reputation for excellence. Music -Insider

In addition to the well-qualified faculty members who specialize in Kodály and other areas of music, Silver Lake College invites high-caliber guest professors to instruct the program’s course offerings. Many of the professors are themselves graduates of the Silver Lake College program.

Silver Lake College music graduates and Kodály certificate holders serve as teachers and music supervisors in preschool through college music training programs in more than 20 states, as well as internationally.

The program will take place in the Franciscan Center for Music Education and Performance on campus, 2406 S. Alverno Road. For more information, contact Emily Davis or Margaret Wolfgram at 920-686-6175. Register online here.

The program will include a celebration of Dr. John Feierabend’s 40th summer of teaching at Silver Lake College of the Holy Family. He is Kodály Summer Graduate Music Program chair and the first graduate of the master’s program.

A Cream Puff Cookout, featuring dinner and folk dancing, will be held in his honor at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, July 6 on campus. (See invitation below). RSVP by June 29 to RSVP@sl.edu or by calling (920) 686-6221.
