SLC presents faculty recital on April 4

Dr. Drew Whiting resized.jpgMANITOWOC, Wis. — The Silver Lake College department of music will present a faculty recital at 7 p.m. on April 4 featuring Dr. Drew Whiting, who teaches applied saxophone.

The recital, which is free and open to the public, will take place in the Franciscan Center for Music Education and Performance on campus, 2406 S. Alverno Road.

An advocate for new music, Dr. Whiting will perform contemporary works written between 2003 and the present, including a world premiere of “In Lights Starkly Different,” a 2017 work by Robin Julian Heifetz.

Dr. Whiting’s diverse musical interests have led him to perform with symphony orchestras, big bands, new music ensembles, salsa bands, improvisation collectives and chamber ensembles. He has presented solo recitals of contemporary saxophone works throughout the United States.

Dr. Whiting is an accomplished chamber musician, having been awarded first place at the 2012 Music Teachers National Association’s national chamber music competition as a member of the Cerulean Saxophone Quartet. Currently, Dr. Whiting is a member of the Vine Street Trio and Coalescent Quartet, and performs throughout Wisconsin with the Water City Jazz Orchestra, Big Band Reunion, and the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra.

In addition to performing, Dr. Whiting is a dedicated and vibrant educator. He also is a member of the music faculty at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh and has presented master classes at various universities across the United States.

Dr. Whiting is a Yamaha Performing Artist and Vandoren Regional Artist, performing on Yamaha saxophones and Vandoren woodwind products.
