Silver Lake College’s Artist Music Series will present the Wingra Woodwind Quintet at 3 p.m. on March 15 at the Franciscan Center for Music Education and Performance, 2406 S. Alverno Road.

The Wingra Woodwind Quintet, of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, celebrates its 50th anniversary this season.

The concert program, “Tradition and Innovation: Music from the Old Country — Austria, Hungary and Bohemia,” will offer colorful and evocative works of Alexander von Zemlinsky, Endre Szervánsky, Bela Bartók, Gustav Mahler and Frigyes Hidas.

These compositions are designed to show off the capabilities of the instruments and the technical virtuosity of the players, including Stephanie Jutt on flute, Kostantinos “Kostas” Tiliakos on oboe, Linda Bartley on clarinet, Marc Vallon on bassoon and Linda Kimball on horn.

As one of the top ensembles in the state, Wingra has established a tradition of artistic and teaching excellence. Prior to the concert, members of the quintet will conduct master classes with individual students and ensembles in Silver Lake College’s Department of Music.

Concert tickets are $18 for adults, $12 for seniors, $5 for children ages 13 to 18, $2.50 for children ages 5 to 12, and free for children 4 and younger.
