MANITOWOC, Wis. — The public is invited to hear talented vocal students in “Expect the Unexpected,” a program of operatic scenes presented by the Silver Lake College of the Holy Family music department in conjunction with the art department.
The production, directed by vocal instructor Emily Davis, will be offered at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 25; at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 27; and 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 28 in the Franciscan Center for Music Education and Performance on campus, 2406 S. Alverno Road.
“This year’s Opera Workshop production features scenes from five different operas, all centered on unexpected events, either for the characters in the scene or for the audience,” Davis said. “Several large chorus scenes will be balanced with smaller duets and trios in a variety of styles.”
The program will showcase scenes from three of Mozart’s most famous operas, “Magic Flute,” “Don Giovanni” and “The Marriage of Figaro.” It also will feature Otto Nicolai’s “Merry Wives of Windsor,” based on the Shakespeare play of the same title; and Georges Bizet’s “Carmen,” with its Spanish flair.
Dr. Diana Shapiro, assistant professor of piano and undergraduate music department chair, will accompany on piano.
“Expect the Unexpected” is a collaborative effort between the Opera Workshop class and students in Dr. Dionne Landgraf’s 3-D Design class, who created the sets and props.
Vocal performers include Theresa Nier, Emma Knickelbine, Noah Liermann, Brad Fahley, Michael Stearns, Christopher Ducasse, Benjamin Karnitz, Shannon DeGrave, Meg Lehman, Young Moua and Ashley Reif.
Hanna Stolper is stage manager and Christopher Ducasse is lighting designer.
Members of 3-D Design are Bruno Asca Rosas, Ayana Boyd, Guerson Choute, Dreshawn Dorsey, Makaya Evans, Olivia Hanf, A J Jaeger, Daviantae McFarling, Briana Nash, Daysi Perez-Ramirez, Anna Reiter, Dayonna Stokes, Brianna Thetphasone, Arianna Williams and Christopher Zaragoza.
