MANITOWOC, Wis. — Silver Lake College will be showing the artworks of Wisconsin artist Julie Jilek starting on Jan 15.

The guest artist exhibit of mixed media, charcoal and ink works will run through Feb. 16 in the Donald P. Taylor Gallery on campus, 2406 S. Alverno Road. Gallery hours are from 8 a.m. to 4:30 Monday through Friday. Jilek will give an Artist Talk at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 24. The talk and exhibit are free and open to the public.

“Jilek’s work is both expressive and representational,” said Erin LaBonte, associate professor of art at Silver Lake College. “I was immediately drawn to it and am excited to find out more about her process and her interest in finding connections between nature and art.”

Jilek, a professional artist who maintains a working art studio in Appleton, is committed to the preservation of the arts and the environment. She has developed several projects including the Wisconsin State Park Plein Air Project, documenting 57 state parks and forests, as well as the recent Art for the Arts project, raising funds and awareness for the Appleton Public School System through daily painting.

Recent collaborations with musical artists Dave Steffen, Peter Mulvey, Ume and others are exciting new opportunities, which combine her passions for visual arts and music as she creates artwork for the bands’ latest albums and promotional material, she said.

Jilek received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. Her work has been published in national magazines, shown throughout the Midwest and is represented in public and private collections across the country. Local clientele include Appleton Medical Center, Theda Clark Medical Center, Plexus, and the University of Wisconsin-Fox Valley.
