Silver Lake College is proud to welcome Melissa Hamachek to the faculty of its new four-year nursing program.
Hamachek has taught since 2012 as an adjunct faculty member in Silver Lake College’s Bachelor of Science in nursing completion program and its Management in Organizational Development program.
Her experience includes serving as nurse educator and assistant health services unit manager for Taycheedah Correctional Institution, a women’s prison in Wisconsin. In that role, she assisted the institution in achieving certification from the National Commission on Correctional Healthcare indicating health-care standards for inmate patients are consistently met.
Hamachek developed an orientation program for new correctional nurses and modules for nursing assessments to use throughout the Department of Corrections.
She presented at two national conferences on women’s correctional nursing, the American Correctional Association conference and the National Commission on Correctional Health Care conference. She is a member of the ACA, and is a certified correctional health-care professional through the NCCHC.
Hamachek also worked at Holy Family Memorial in Manitowoc as a registered nurse for 23 years.
She holds a Bachelor of Science in nursing from Marquette University in Milwaukee, and a Master of Science in nursing and health education from the University of Phoenix.
