World-renowned pianist George Vatchnadze will be performing in Manitowoc on Friday, Nov. 7, at 7:30 p.m. as part of Silver Lake College’s 2014-2015 Artist Music Series.
The concert will be held at Endries Hall, located on campus at the Franciscan Center for Music Education and Performance, 2406 S. Alverno Road. Vatchnadze will perform works by Ludwig Van Beethoven, Robert Schumann and Johannes Brahms.
Vatchnadze joined the DePaul University faculty as Associate Professor of Piano in September 2011.
He has appeared with orchestras and in recital throughout the United States and around the world, in countries including Canada, Great Britain, France, Finland, Italy, Israel, Russia, Japan, Taiwan, Chile, Guatemala and the Netherlands.
Following Vatchnadze’s New York recital debut at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall, critic Faubion Bowers wrote in American Record Guide: “Vatchnadze is a consummate artist, now at the height of his musical and intellectual powers. He can do absolutely anything he wants at the piano. He commands delicate pianissimi, massive diapasons and everything in between.”
Vatchnadze has recorded two CDs with the Tbilisi Symphony Orchestra under Maestro Jansug Kakhidze, featuring Sergei Rachmaninoff’s “Concerto No. 2” and Maurice Ravel’s “Concerto for the Left Hand,” for the Sony and Excelsior labels.
In addition, Vatchnadze has won numerous international piano competitions.
Concert tickets are $18 for adults, $12 for seniors (ages 65 and older), $5 for children ages 13-18, $2.50 for children ages 5-12, and free for children 4 and younger.
