MANITOWOC, Wis. -- Dr. Albert Sears, professor of English at Silver Lake College, has been selected to join the Peer Corps as a reviewer for the Higher Learning Commission.

The commission, an independent corporation founded in 1895, accredits degree-granting post-secondary educational institutions in the north-central United States.

The Higher Learning Commission relies on about 1,600 faculty members and administrators from institutions for its accrediting activities.

Dr. Sears applied, was accepted, and recently received training in Chicago, where he learned how to evaluate institutions for accreditation.

“I’m honored to be selected. The training that I’ve received provides many insights into how we at Silver Lake College can participate in continuous improvement to ensure that our students receive the best education that we can offer.  I’m looking forward to sharing what I’ve learned with my colleagues,” Dr. Sears said.

“The peer reviewers play an incredibly important role in all stages of the accreditation process,” according to the Higher Learning Commission. “They are responsible for assuring that an institution is complying with the accreditation criteria as well as for helping an institution advance within the content of its own mission.”
