Mosaic, landscape and print works will be among the art on display during Silver Lake College’s Sophomore Art Exhibit, which opens Feb. 5 and continues through Feb. 26. The exhibit will feature art by SLC students Danielle Hunt, Sarah Presley and Anthony Cotton.
The public is invited to view the exhibit in the Art Department Hallway Gallery, located on campus at 2406 S. Alverno Road. Hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.
An artists reception will take place from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 22. The reception and exhibit are free and open to the public.
Born and raised in Milwaukee, Danielle Hunt is pursuing a degree in Graphic Design. She chose Silver Lake College because of its small classroom sizes and the assurance that she can get as much help as possible. Her goal is to design logos and websites for businesses. “Eventually, I want to design video game characters,” she said. “I’m not the best artist, but when it comes to graphic design, I can express my artistic side by using the computer.”
Sarah Presley, from Plymouth, is majoring in Studio Art and minoring in Computer Science. She hopes to pursue a career in computer animation and, after graduation, plans to attend graduate school for a degree in that field. Sarah dreams of being an animator for Disney someday because they have created most of her favorite movies, and she wants to be a part of creating their future movies. She says that art has always been one of her favorite subjects in school.
Anthony Cotton, born and raised in Milwaukee, is majoring in Studio Art. He plans to continue his venture in art until he reaches his goal of becoming an architect. Drawing on his inspiration from “street art,” he gives his pieces a raw feel to them. He believes you can create anything as long as you have an imagination. Anthony became interested in art at a young age.
