Dr. Chris Domes, President of Silver Lake College, recognized two Manitowoc individuals at the College’s Annual Meeting on Wednesday.

They were Dr. John Stern, who was unable to attend the meeting, and Sister Laura Wolf.

“(John) served the college in so many ways as a board member,” said Dr. Domes, speaking in Endries Hall at the Franciscan Center for Music Education and Performance. “He was so helpful when the college constructed this building. I think (he) sat in every seat in this place listening to the sound in this room.”

Dr. Stern, a longtime area physician, served on the Silver Lake College Board of Directors from Jan. 1, 2011 through Dec. 31, 2014. He was co-chair of the capital campaign for the construction of the building, served on the building committee, helped select the acoustic shell and did extensive research for the project. The building was dedicated in October 2013.

Dr. Stern has supported Silver Lake College’s Scholarship Benefit Gala for nearly a decade and has already committed to sponsoring the gala for 2016. He also has supported many other projects of the College.

“(Sister Laura) has been an incredible leader and a great friend,” Dr. Domes said. “She has worked tirelessly at making sure this institution not just survives but thrives. Her leadership is one that will go down in history books for this institution. I just want to acknowledge her for her leadership, her dedication and her personal friendship.”

Sister Laura Wolf accepted a seat on the Silver Lake College Board of Directors in the summer of 2005 and began serving the first of three terms. She was Chair of the Board from 2008-2014.

Sister Laura is president of Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity Sponsored Ministries, Inc., a nonstock, not-for-profit corporation. She helped create its predecessor, the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity HealthCare Ministry, in 1985. Its name changed when Silver Lake College of the Holy Family was brought under its umbrella in 2012.

Sister Laura joined the Manitowoc-based Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity in the 1960s. She graduated from Silver Lake College in 1975 with a bachelor’s degree in secondary education and a specialty in social sciences.
