Silver Lake College is grateful to all of its volunteers for their service.

Twenty-four volunteers have donated a total of 880 hours during the 2016-17 academic year. Among them is Jean Rausch of Newton, who has donated 290 hours since she began volunteering in 2016.

Rausch volunteers in the Academic Resource Center, assisting students who are non-native English speakers, including student Carla Martinez Morant (pictured at right), who is from Valencia, Spain.

“Whenever you volunteer, you get back so much more than you give. I’ve been an English teacher all of my life and enjoy being able to use my skills to continue helping students in my retirement,” Rausch said.

“Jean’s volunteering is a crucial part of the Academic Resource Center at Silver Lake College,” said Christine Beck, academic resource coordinator. “She has several students who continually meet with her for assistance on assignments.  Jean looks forward to working with the students and they, in turn, look forward to their tutoring sessions. It is a win-win!”
