The Silver Lake College women’s basketball team won both of its games this past week.
With victories over Judson University and Andrews University, the Lakers stretched their overall winning streak to six games and boosted their season record to 11-3. They’re ranked No. 7 nationally in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association’s latest Division 1 poll
On Jan. 7, SLC defeated visiting Judson University 70-57 for its 16th straight home victory.
The Lakers jumped out to a 42-25 halftime lead. Judson closed the gap to five points in the second half, but SLC hit key shots down the stretch to seal the victory.
It was SLC’s first victory over Judson in coach Mike Flentje’s nine-year tenure. “It was very gratifying for the seniors as well as the coaching staff to finally defeat the Lady Eagles,” Flentje said. “This win is one of the most significant in the program in a long while.”
Sophomore forward Danelle Buck, a graduate of Valders High School, led SLC with 17 points. Senior forward Courtney Clavers of Brillion added 11 points, while senior center Raelyn Woock of Burnett finished with 12 points, 13 rebounds, three assists, two steals and three blocks.
On Jan. 10, SLC cruised to a 68-25 victory over Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Mich.
The Lakers held the Cardinals scoreless in the second quarter en route to a 37-6 halftime lead.
Leading SLC was sophomore forward Daisneekqua Thompson of Pontiac, Mich., with nine points and 11 rebounds. Adding eight points apiece were junior guard Amanda Kudick of Kewaunee, senior guard Kaela Cheesman of Rolla, Mo., and Woock.
