Young adult ministry conference set for Feb. 17

MANITOWOC, Wis. — Silver Lake College will present “Embraced by Beauty,” a young adult and campus ministry conference starting at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 17 on campus, 2406 S. Alverno Road. 

“It may be difficult to see and experience the beauty of Christ that surrounds us and longs to embrace us due to the challenges we face in our lives,” said Shaun Johnson, director of Franciscan spirituality and service at Silver Lake College.

“This conference is an opportunity to step up our Lenten journey and to learn a new way of seeing and encountering Christ’s love for us in the ordinary and extra-ordinary experiences of life,” he said. “We have some phenomenal speakers who are going to lead our keynote and breakout sessions, and we will have the opportunity to end the afternoon by participating in Mass celebrated by Bishop David Ricken in the college chapel. The event is free, and provides for a great opportunity for you to grow in your call of discipleship.”

Julianne Stanz, director of new evangelization for the Diocese of Green Bay, will be keynote speaker. 

 “Relationships” will be the topic addressed by Jane Angha, young adult ministry coordinator with the Diocese of Green Bay.

 “The Church and its Life of Prayer” will be presented by Father Jim Baraniak, prior of St. Norbert Abbey in De Pere, Green Bay Packers chaplain, prison chaplain and vocation director.

Sarah Bradford, communications coordinator for the Diocese of Green Bay will speak about learning to see the sacred in the profane of “Art, Film & Music.”

The conference is geared to ages 19 to 39.

Registration and coffee will begin at 12:30 p.m. in the lower level of the Generose Enrichment Center. The conference will follow from 1 to 4 p.m. Mass with Bishop Ricken will begin at 4:15 p.m. in the Silver Lake College Chapel, located in the Main Building.

An optional social will start at 5:30 p.m. at Luigi’s Italian Restaurant, 6124 Calumet Ave., Manitowoc.
